As a nurse on the general medicine COVID-19 unit at Plains Regional Medical Center, Airam Amaya cares for patients with a range of symptoms.
In November and December, Amaya was busier than at any time during the pandemic.
She said the nurses make it through by trying to laugh a lot, and they are grateful for the support from community members and families.
"Family members will send a tray of a treat to thank us for the care we provide to our patients," Amaya said. "It makes us feel like we are doing something right for them."
